      Abstract
The object of this research was to identify and to estimate the abundance of the basic (nitrogenous) components in Saskatchewan lignite tar as obtained by the Parry process of low temperature carbonization. A fraction of the tar bases was separated from the crude tar by steam distillation followed by acid extraction. Vapour phase chromatography and infrared spectroscopy were utilized as the prime methods of compound separation and identification.
