Abstract
The Overhang Papers is a dystopian novel set in 2048 within a world where women have been stripped of their freedoms by a corporatocracy dedicated to controlling the domestic labour supply. The story takes place in the wilds of Northern Saskatchewan where the protagonist, a young woman named Circe has been hiding with her family for the last twenty years. Told through Circe’s perspective, the novel begins when a young stranger is dropped off on the isolated shores of her home the spring after her father’s death. When the stranger turns out to be a young girl on the run from both the government and a nearby group of bounty hunters, Circe is forced to question the success of her forced isolation and whether or not she is willing to risk her safety for the opportunity to help someone she has only just met. The Overhang Papers askes to what extent our connections to other people shapes the outlook on life and how society shapes us.
