Locating myself in the present moment, this thesis dissertation explores previous work and working methods to offer context to my current artistic practice; a practice that relies on subconscious processing of experience and its affects through language and paint. Using tropical house plants as subject matter, the “self,” is presented in metaphorical connections to personal relationships, health and wellbeing, loss and gain, preservation, memory, and belonging. I reveal uncanny environments through these painted surfaces by exploring conceptual practices, materiality and the objecthood of traditional media.
