Abstract
This research project was conducted to determine if
it was feasible to improve the quality and quantity of
water in an aquifer by artificial recharge through domestic
wells.
A portable water treatment system was designed and
constructed to inject the best quality of water possible.
A procedure that can be used to evaluate possible recharge
sites was developed.
The injection tests undertaken in this project
indicated that the recharging of an aquifer through
existing domestic wells is possible. The results of these
injection tests were evaluated through pump tests and the
chemical analyses of water samples.
A computer program was developed to assist in the
design and demonstration of the recharge process. The
computer program was used to predict the piezometric head
within the aquifer and to predict the mixing and
gravitational segregation occurring within a confined,
horizontal, radial flow system.
