| dc.description.abstract | This thesis analyzes some 97,000 historical artifacts recovered from the Letendre and Carriere structures at Batoche, Saskatchewan. A reexamination of the collection was done after it was realized there was significant error in the computerized artifact inventory and other site records. The primary goal of this reexamination was to record and analyze attributes of chronological significance. Each cultural stratum was defined and relatively finely datable artifacts from each were correlated to determine the time spans during which each could have been laid down. It was found that, despite the narrow dates of certain artifacts, stratigraphic associations were not sufficient to separate the artifacts into components. The artifact dates did reveal new information about when the site was occupied. The presence of a Metis family living on the site in the 1940s was confirmed. strong evidence suggests that most of the outbuildings on the site were among the first structures erected at Batoche. | en_US |
