Abstract
[from Introduction] Because of conflicting opinions concerning the settlement of La Ronge, it was thought that a comprehensive geographical study would help to determine whether and where such problems as poor housing, lack of services, overcrowding, ill-health, illiteracy, and dependence on welfare payments exist in La Ronge. The causative factors would also receive consideration so that the analysis could serve as a basis for plans to eliminate any such problems. This geographical analysis
would provide a useful and necessary basis for urban planning. Further it is suggested that only after detailed examination of both the nature of the urban complex itself and of the regional geography can a full understanding of the socio-economic conditions and potential be achieved. Such understanding is necessary in planning for this important northern settlement. Information concerning regional
natural resources, the effect of the physical environment on the form of La Ronge, the historical growth of the settlement, the areal differentiation in the townscape, the social and economic characteristics of the settlement, was analysed systematically in chapter form.
