Fusarium head blight (FHB), a disease of wheat and barley, has been a problem for producers and the agricultural industry in Manitoba for the past 10 years. During this time the disease has occasionally been reported from eastern Saskatchewan, but until 1996, FHB was largely a novelty or of minor concern in this province. A concerted effort to study FHB under prairie conditions was begun in 1988 at the Cereal Research Centre (CRC), Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada in Winnipeg MB. This work is ongoing. For this presentation the findings of this research, done by a multi disciplinary team of scientists and technicians, will be summarized. The intent is to provide a brief overview and to supply literature references for information already published. These findings have relevance to a problem that may become more acute in Saskatchewan, and should provide agronomists, extension personnel, plant pathologists and producers with insights and a ‘road map’ on which to base recommendations and future studies.en_US
