dc.description.abstract | The state space representation of a hydraulic generating plant supplying a large power system by way of a high voltage direct current transmission line is developed. The a.c. sending end frequency and voltage control loops as well as the tie-line current control loop are taken into account in the model. The analytical model is used to study interactions which exist between the three loops. Using root locus techniques, changes in the system stability due to parameter variations are evaluated. The system performance is illustrated using actual time responses of the loops. The results obtained from this thesis indicate that a strong tie exists between the voltage and current control loops and relatively weak tics occur between the voltage and current control loops and the frequency control loop. Although the strong tie exists between the voltage and current control loops, it is shown that analysis, considering isolated loop operation, provides reliable information about the performance of the complete system. | |
