Abstract
The passage of particles such as alpha particles, electrons, and protons, or electromagnetic radiations in the form of X-rays or gamma rays, through a medium such as air or water, causes ionization in the medium by interaction with the extranuclear electrons of the molecules. Alpha particles, electrons, and X-and gamma rays have all been extensively investigated, but the subject of these remarks will be confined largely to the effects of gamma rays on aqueous solutions.
