Abstract

I am guided by the ancestral wisdom of diverse path-makers, warriors, scientists, and educators who inspire my educational philosophy. Rooted in the Nêhiyaw principle of Wâhkôhtowin, my approach emphasizes holistic growth, interconnection, and inclusivity. As an Indigenous Cree educator, I am dedicated to restoring Wâhkôhtowin teachings into K-12 education systems and nurturing a restorative leadership. Through qualitative research, I aim to infuse Indigenous wisdom, challenge colonial norms, and empower communities, focusing on daily improvements within educational communities. Explicitly, I aim to craft an approach rooted in Wâhkôhtowin principles to advance holistic education further. This approach champions positivity, respect, and inclusivity for all individuals involved, aligning with Indigenous Corporate Training Inc. (Indigenous Corporate Training Inc., 2022, p.8). The study integrates Wâhkôhtowin principles into educational leadership to promote transformative and inclusive learning environments. Grounded in Indigenous methodology, it emphasizes ethical and relational responsibilities to enhance academic achievement and align with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action. Participant feedback calls for educational reforms that integrate Wâhkôhtowin and Indigenous perspectives, urging educational leaders to embrace these principles for inclusive environments recognizing Indigenous histories. Collaboration with Nêhiyâw knowledge keepers reintroduces Wâhkôhtowin principles in education, nurturing harmonious, Treaty-honouring schools promoting compassion, unity, and positive change.
