Abstract
SYNOPSIS
This thesis is a presentation of the research done on an end-plate connection consisting of a 1/2 inch plate welded to the end of a 10WF21 beam and then bolted with four high strength bolts to the flange of an 8WF28 column. The use of electrical resistance strain gages to find bolt loads proved very satisfactory. The use of a 1/2 inch end plate proved to be sufficient for the connection. The amount of bolt pretension greatly affected the overall behaviour of the connection. The introduction of stiffeners to the column strengthened the connection.
