Nuttall, W.F.2018-09-222018-09-221987-02-19http://hdl.handle.net/10388/10909Because elemental-S in granular form is not immediately available to plant roots in the soil, two rotation experiments were designed to determine when and how this fertilizer should be applied on wheat and canola. In the first experiments , the sulphur fertilizers (Degra Sul; 0-0-0-90 and Ammonium Sulphate; 21-0-0-24) were broadcast at 50 kg S ha-1, and lightly incorporated by the plot seeding equipment. An amount of ammonium nitrate was applied with the elemental-S source to make the same ratio of N:S as with 21-0-0-24. The other additions of fertilizer were side-banded. The sulphur sources were applied in the summer and in the fall as well for use by the the crop in the second year of the rotation. In the second rotation, urea as well as ammonium nitrate were applied with S at 25 and 50 kg ha-1 on two Gray Wooded soil sites. In both rotation experiments, the yield of canola was significantly increased by the spring application of the elemental source (three site-years).
