dc.description.abstractA four year study began in 2018 on section 21 of the Livestock and Forage Centre of Excellence (LFCE) near Clavet SK. Section 21 is classified as a Bradwell Orthic Dark Brown soil with undulating topography Within section 21, 3 zones of ~40 acres each containing 3 watershed basins were delineated for silage barley to receive one of three 3 treatments: 1) constant rate of manure applied at 20 tons per acre, providing ~ 200 lb N acre-1 and 100 lb P2O5 acre-1 2) variable rate manure in which the manure application ranges 50% above baseline rate (lowest NDVI productivity) and 50% below baseline rate (highest NDVI productivity) and 3) commercial fertilizer application of 50 lbs P2O5 ac-1 as MAP (11-52-0). All zones received 80 lbs N ac-1 as anhydrous ammonia (82-0-0). In the variable rate manure zone, no manure was applied to the watershed basin depressions while the basins in the constant rate zone did receive manure application through the basin. Manure application occurred in spring of 2019 that was intended to last two years before the next application. Yields of silage barley in 2019 among zones were similar. Yields generally increased with decreasing slope position. In the variable rate watersheds, yields in depressions were maintained with reduced rates of manure application.en_US
