Abstract

This thesis was planned with three objectives: (1) to conduct a phytogeographic investigation of the migratory routes of the genus Stipa from its place of origin to its present situations, with special reference to S. comata, S. spartea and S. spartea var. curtiseta in the northern Great Plains; (2) to distinguish morphologically between these three taxa in this area; and (3) to investigate the relative response of S. comata and S. spartea var. curtiseta to climatic, physiographic, edaphic and biotic factors.
