      Abstract
An examination of the way in which the Teutonic Order was able to navigate the conflict between Emperor Frederick II and the Papacy in such a way that allowed them to secure the benefits and privileges which allowed them to establish an 'Ordensland' in the state of Prussia during the first half of the thirteenth century.
