Abstract

This thesis brings together the results of six seasons of investigation on the Greasewood Area of the Val Marie Irrigation Project. The investigations have been conducted under the supervision of the Division of Forage Crops, Dominion Experimental Station, Swift Current. The work was started in 1938 and has been continued until 1943. Since 1939, the author has been in charge of the work carried on. In addition to the field work that has been done, a number of laboratory investigations have been carried out by the Soils Research Laboratory, Swift Current, both independently and jointly with the author. Liberal use of this information has been generously given and some which is pertinent has been included. The author also carried out laboratory investigations while attending the University of Saskatchewan. In this thesis, the chemical and physical nature of the soil involved, the problems presented by the physical and chemical nature of the soil, the results of the experiments and investigations conducted, and the conclusions arrived at are reported.
