This thesis describes the development of a prototype microprocessor-based fault recorder cable of digitally recording power system transient waveforms. The recorder can monitor and record 16 event channels and 8 analog channels with signal bandwidths of 350 Hz, or 16 event channels and 16 analog channels with signal bandwidths of 180 Hz. The recorder may be synchronized to an external satellite-controlled time base. General information on the system hardware and software is presented. Results of laboratory tests, a description of field tests and recommendations for further development of the system are included.en_US
